Our Purpose

The Racine Police Peer Support Team recognizes the value of a peer-based program to assist with personal and/or professional problems.

The Racine Peer Support is composed of a group of peer volunteers that are available to any member of the department & their family. This provides an avenue for members to talk out personal and/or professional problems confidentially with someone who understands and cares.

The Peer Support Program’s goal is to assist peers with stresses caused by personal and work related problems and help them to continue to be a productive member of the department and society as a whole.

Supporting Those Who Serve: The Racine Police Department’s Commitment to Officer Wellness

At the Racine Police Peer Support, we recognize that our officers often encounter people during some of the most challenging moments of their lives. These experiences can affect an officer’s mental health and overall well-being.

To address this, the Racine Police Department established the Racine Peer Support Team in the 1980s. Initially formed to assist officers following critical incidents, the program has since expanded to provide ongoing education, mental health awareness, and resources for officers throughout their careers. Today, it serves as a vital support system, not just in moments of crisis but also in everyday challenges.

Our Peer Support Team includes a Peer Advisor (Lieutenant), a Peer Support Commander (Sergeant), a Peer Coordinator, and seven trained peer support members. Recognizing the need for professional care, we added an in-house mental health therapist in 2019, ensuring our members can access confidential support at no cost.

At the Racine Police Peer Support, strong mental health is essential for delivering the highest service to our community. We are committed to providing our officers with the tools, education, and support they need to stay healthy, resilient, and ready to serve.
